KID STUFF

One evening this past fall, I was doodling with cartoons which is something I haven't really done for nearly twenty years.  I was surprised at how difficult it was for me, however, over the next few days, I got a little hooked on the challenge of it.  To draw from my mind's eye is a whole different task than to draw what I immediately see.  I noticed, however, that in some ways, that the lessons I had in figure drawing class helped more than you might imagine when drawing cartoons.  I took the experiment a step further, and for fun, painted a character on our daughter's window for Halloween.  I thought it might be a fun break from the "norm" to paint a few windows downtown to earn a few extra dollars to help us get back to see my family for Christmas .  What I've found is that I don't necessarily want to paint windows or cartoons for a living, but I did enjoy the challenge and thought I'd show some of the results of the past couple months and the work that came as a result.  Some of the characters shown are window paintings,  some are from my sketch book, and a few are actually Shrinky Dinks. Making Shrinky Dink Christmas tree ornaments was kind of a tradition for my family when I was a kid that (along with a lot of other activities my mom provided) helped me to develop my interest in art.  I thought it'd be fun to extend the same tradition to our own kids.
